International Photography Exhibition BEYOND BOUNDARIES, opens in Rome Italy

ARTROM Gallery hosted the inauguration of a collective Photographic Exhibition at its Artist Presentation Space in the center of Rome, featuring 5 photograpic artists from 5 different countries. The title of the exhibition, Beyond Boundaries 2007, expresses the double significance of the theme; that of the geographical location and cultural diversity of the artists and the fact that each, within their experimental research, is pushing beyond the current limits of the medium by mixing traditional techniques with the new digital techonologies.

Nathan Brusovani, a Russian living in Israel, created a series called "Humanscapes". These six works juxtapose the human element with its surroundings in a dream-like manner to expand the possibilities of the initial subject matter and surpass the boundaries of ordinary experience. "It is my conviction that the whole process of image creation, is capable of being, in the truest sense, a visual research lab – a place for discovery, observation, and meditation. Ultimately, my task is to amaze the viewer." These works created much discussion about man's relation to his environment.

American artist Dale O'Dell, who was shooting source material in the Northern California Redwoods during the inauguration, exhibited six works from his series "Surreal Landscapes" which is an on-going research into creating worlds that exist outside of the laws of physics, logic and normalcy, using "real" or "straight" landscape as a foundation for the creation of fictional places. O'Dell says "Photography for me, instead of a final destination, is more a mining expedition to collect bits and pieces for later rearrangement." Infinite perspectives into majestic trees, laughing leaves as they fall, cathedral ceilings above paths in the woods are some of the subjects of his imaginary environments. The visitors were especially delighted with the work "The Path to Enlightenment".

Roberto Grilli attended the opening, coming to Rome for 5 days from Ireland. His works touched people immediately. Marcia Theophili, Brazilian poet nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature, spoke very highly of the artist's ability to transpose his passion and appreciation of the beauty found in Nature to a visual context with the power to connect the observer to a deeper respect for the Beauty that is all around us and goes unnoticed.

As today’s technology explodes, endless labels leap into existence in a perpetual effort to define the ultimate result of the creative process. Liana Brittain, a Canadian photographic artist, refers to her work as "Artography". She transfoms her original photographs of Nature's details to enhance or emphasize their beauty. The result is the creation of extraordinary images. Greatly appreciated by all, especially the younger visitors to the Exhibition.
